"Role of pioneer migrants in the Brazilian migration to Europe" – THEMIS paper at Metropolis Conference

Event date: Monday 12th September 2011

A THEMIS project paper entitled ‘The role of pioneer migrants in the Brazilian migration to Europe: evidence from UK, Portugal, Netherlands and Norway’ will be presented at the 16th International Metropolis Conference in the Azores, 12- 16 September 2011.

The conference focus is on ‘Migration futures: perspectives on global changes’.

The THEMIS paper will be presented by our team member Sonia Pereira, IGOT-UL, as part of a workshop on ‘Brazilian migration in Europe: the role of communication within the Brazilian diaspora’. Sonia co-organised this workshop, which intends to discuss the specificities of the recently constituted flow of Brazilian migrants to Europe by drawing on the research and experience of academics, NGO representatives and members of governmental agencies from both Brazil and destination countries in Europe. It will build on the experience of this recent immigration flow and the settlement patterns of these immigrants in European countries to reflect upon the character of contemporary migration in Europe, consequences and future.
